Derartu Tulu pleaded for peace at the athletes' awards ceremony

Derartu Tulu pleaded for peace at the athletes' awards ceremony

The President of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, Commander Derartu Tulu

The President of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, Commander Derartu Tulu, on Wednesday called on the federal government and Tigray forces to bring peace to the athletes who participated in the awards ceremony held in Belgrade.

Derartu Tulu appealed to the winners of the 18th World Indoor Athletics Championships to give Ethiopia the upper hand in the tournament.

"Tigray is still Ethiopia. Today it is Ethiopia. Tomorrow it is Ethiopia.

"The mothers and fathers of Tigray are our mothers and fathers. Tomorrow is another day. Ethiopia will be reconciled and united," Commander Derartu said in an emotional speech.

He noted that the athletes who excelled in the competition were in a difficult situation due to the war in northern Ethiopia. "Don't be discouraged. Tomorrow is another day. Thank you so much for raising the Ethiopian flag," said Commander Derartu.

Ethiopian athletes have won the 18th World Athletics Championships in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, from March 18 to 19, 2022.

Ethiopia finished first with four gold, three silver and two bronze medals at home.

Huluf Yedegom, a female athlete from Tigray, conveyed the same message at the forum.

Coach Huluf Yidego won the gold medal in the 3,000 meters, Lena Hailu won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters and Guadaf Tsegaye won the silver medal in the 800 meters.

Left-to-right silver medalist Axumite Embaye, gold medalist Gudaf Tsegaye and bronze medalist Hirut Meshesha

Coach Huluf Yiddego told the BBC that the three athletes he coached had no place to train before heading to Belgrade to compete in the 18th World Athletics Championships.

"We didn't get much track in terms of the situation, so we practiced outside the track," he told the BBC.

"Sports is brotherhood, love, peace. These children [athletes] have stood up for peace and success," Commander Derartu Tulu said at a forum yesterday.

ETHIOPIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES CEASEFIRE

"We, the leaders of Tigray, and the leaders of Tigray, please unite for the sake of Ethiopia's unity and peace tomorrow," Derartu said.

Derartu Tulu, the first African woman to win a gold medal at the Olympics, is the first female athlete to wave the Ethiopian flag at a major event and is currently chairing the Ethiopian Athletics Federation.

In addition to the sport, Derartu is known for presenting questions and ideas that will benefit her country and her people in various forums.

Ethiopian government announces ceasefire

 Ethiopian government announces ceasefire

Prime Minster of Abiy Ahmed

The statement of Ethiopian government said "The Ethiopian government is taking various steps to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to people in need in the Tigray region. As a result, the United Nations has increased the number of humanitarian flights and streamlined its supply of fuel and cash to aid agencies. In addition, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union (EU) have facilitated the delivery of humanitarian aid.

However, it is being observed that thousands of residents of the Tigray region are currently traveling to neighboring regions in search of humanitarian assistance. As a result, the good deeds of the people living in the neighboring states of Tigray by receiving humanitarian aid from the Tigray region are a reflection of the spirit of brotherhood and unity among the people. The government strongly believes that if these people are left to fend for themselves, their abuse will be reduced. Therefore, the government recognizes that its responsibility to address the plight of its most vulnerable citizens is paramount and is committed to making every effort to ensure that adequate humanitarian assistance reaches the Tigray region.

Accordingly, the government has decided to put an end to the humanitarian crisis, which will take effect from the moment of its decision, in order to save the lives of those in dire straits and reduce the risk of violence. In this regard, the government calls for a significant increase in the support and assistance provided by the international donor community.

It reaffirms its commitment to work with stakeholders to ensure that humanitarian assistance is delivered to those in need. The government believes that the success of this effort and commitment in improving the humanitarian situation will be matched by the commitment of the other party. The government's decision aims to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to people in need. Therefore, in order for the ceasefire decision to have the desired effect, the government calls on the rebels in the Tigray region to refrain from any aggression and to withdraw from the occupied territories.

The Ethiopian government hopes that this decision to end the humanitarian conflict will significantly improve the situation in northern Ethiopia and provide a lasting solution to the conflict without further bloodshed."

On the other hand, the United States strongly supports the Ethiopian government's decision to end the conflict on the basis of humanitarian assistance in Tigray.

The United States Government welcomes the cessation of hostilities in the Tigray region to facilitate the provision of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

The government has announced that it has decided to end the conflict for the sake of humanitarian assistance to the people of Tigray State.

In a statement issued tonight, US Secretary of State Anthony Blincon said the government's decision is an important step for the Tigray region and other parts of Ethiopia.

He said it is also the basis for a political solution to ensure the safety and prosperity of all Ethiopians.

"The United States calls on all parties to use this decision to negotiate a lasting ceasefire," he said.

He reaffirmed that the United States will continue to support the Ethiopian people in their efforts to achieve lasting peace.

On the other hand, the TPLF has stated that it will agree to end the conflict if humanitarian aid reaches Tigray.

The TPLF, which has been in conflict with the federal government for the past 16 months, says it will agree to end the conflict if humanitarian aid reaches Tigray.

The TPLF said this on Thursday afternoon, March 26, 2014, after the federal government announced its decision to end the conflict in order to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in the Tigray region.

The federal government said the decision was "significant" and "hopefully a further solution to the conflict without further bloodshed."

He called on the government to "relinquish control of the Tigray region to all insurgents and withdraw from the occupied territories."

Following this, the TPLF stated that it would accept the call if humanitarian aid reached Tigray in sufficient and acceptable time.

"The government of Tigray is committed to ending the conflict," he said.

The statement was shared by TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda and obtained from the Tigray Foreign Ministry. "The government and people of Tigray will do their utmost to give peace a chance," he said.

The federal government has been working with international aid agencies in the past to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of the region, the statement said.

However, he said the supply could not solve the problem in the region, adding that thousands of people from the Tigray region were flocking to neighboring states in search of humanitarian assistance.

The United Kingdom and the United States have responded positively to the Ethiopian government's announcement of a ceasefire in the Tigray region for humanitarian reasons.

The United Kingdom appreciates the Ethiopian government's response to the conflict and is ready to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance.

In a statement issued by the State Department, the United States praised the government's decision to work with aid agencies to end the conflict immediately and to provide humanitarian assistance.

He said the decision was an important step towards providing immediate support to Ethiopians in need, adding that it would be the basis for launching an all-inclusive political process for the country's security and prosperity.

He called on all parties to stop all attacks on civilians and to hold them accountable for their actions.

Following the decision to end the conflict, he urged the parties to reach a lasting negotiated ceasefire, including the necessary security arrangements.

The decision came after US Ambassador to the Horn of Africa David Satterfield visited Addis Ababa for two days and held talks with senior government officials.

After his stay in Ethiopia, the ambassador told Reuters that the main focus of President Joe Biden's administration was on providing humanitarian assistance in the war-torn region of Tigray and elsewhere.

The Foreign Minister told the Special Envoy that although the Ethiopian government is committed to delivering humanitarian aid to Tigray, it is facing difficulties due to the presence of TPLF militants.

The World Food Program (WFP) has received permission from the federal government and regional authorities to provide food aid to Tigray State in December.

Extreme levels of human and material damage were reported in Tigray in late October 2021, when fighting broke out in Tigray and spread to the Amhara and Afar regions, displacing millions.

According to the United Nations, about 10 million people in northern Ethiopia are in need of humanitarian assistance, more than half of them in the Tigray region.

Aid agencies have warned that hundreds of thousands of lives could be in danger if aid is not provided immediately.

The TPLF accuses the Ethiopian government of blocking aid from entering the Tigray region, and accuses the government of disrupting aid by disrupting aid lines.

Reliable sources told to Ethio Trade and Investment Forum that Tewolde's resignation was due to health problem. Tewolde has been receiving medical treatment in the United States for the past six months.

Ethiopian Airline Chief Executive Officer Tewolde Gebre Mariam

Tewolde headed the airline as its chief executive officer for 11 years. He has also served the airline for 37 years.

Tewolde Gebre Mariam, chief executive officer of Ethiopian Airlines, emailed this letter to his staff.

"As you know, I have been suffering from health problems for about a year now. As a result, I have been working in the United States for the past five months. I can't continue.

So I decided to retire early and focus on my treatment.

Of the 11 years and three months that I have been active in various fields for 37 years, it has not been an easy decision to part with my beloved and shiny airline.

However, health comes first and I need to focus on full recovery.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped me lead our precious airline in its exciting development agenda. I am so grateful for your commitment, perseverance and effort. You (the 17,000 strong workforce) have shown the world what is impossible and have astonished the entire aviation industry by all means.

We have exceeded our own 2025 goals, which were previously considered unattainable by industry experts.

Together, over the past decade, we have made history by increasing the airline's annual revenue from $ 1 billion to 4.5 billion, from 33 aircraft to 130 aircraft, from 3 million passengers to 12 million passengers (pre-copy) and more. We have quadrupled the airline by all means. With over $ 700 million worth of essential infrastructure, we have built Africa's largest hotel, cargo terminal and shops, aviation academy, full flight simulators, etc.

Our persistence, perseverance, perseverance and resilience in the face of the worst of the world's worst pandemic has left the airline with a historic profit margin that has allowed any employee to work without any deductions or pay cuts.

. We were great. I ask that you give the same support to my successor and continue your efforts and let our beloved airline shine through. Thanks again. I wish you all the best, health and happiness. Thank you. "

Tewolde Gebre Mariam

Tewodros Kassahun Germamo

Tewodros Kassahun Germamo (born 14 July 1976), known professionally as Teddy Afro, is an Ethiopian singer-songwriter. Known by his revolutionary songs and political dissent sentiment, Teddy is considered one of the most significant Ethiopian artists of all time. Teddy has had a huge cultural impact on the Ethiopian music industry and has been a big influence on many young artists.

1976–2001: Early years

Tewodros Kassahun Germamo was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 14 July 1976 to a singer and songwriter Kassahun Germamo and dancer Tilaye Arage. Tewodros is of ethnic Amhara descent. Despite involving with the entertainment industry, his parents discouraged him to pursue his music career.

2001–2007: AbugidaTeddy and Yasteseryal

Teddy Afro made his debut in 2001 with the album Abugida, quickly establishing himself as a prominent voice in his native country. Mixing reggae, traditional Ethiopian styles, and pop music, his sophomore LP, 2005's Yastesereyal yielded a major hit in its controversial title track, which criticized corruption in the country's government. The song "Hab Dahlak" talks about the division of Ethiopia and Eritrea in terms of couples separating. Four of the album's songs were subsequently banned from media outlets, though "Yastesereyal" sales and influence remained controversial.

His second album Teddy was done in 2000 but released in 2002.

His third album, Yasteseryal was released in 2005. This album was one of the most influential and controversial. Teddy's lyrical sentiments and the release of this album coincided with the elevated political tension in Ethiopia surrounding the 2005 Ethiopian general election. The government banned four of his songs including "Yasteseryal" from playing on Ethiopian media outlets. This restriction was put to rest after the governing party was thrown out of power in 2017. He has since performed these songs in Addis Ababa Meskal Square concerts. Nonetheless, the album sold more than a million copies within a few months after its release.

2012–2017: Tikur Sew and Ethiopia

After his breakthrough, Teddy released his fourth album, Tikur Sew on 14 April 2012. The album Tikur Sew (black person) is dedicated to Emperor Menelik II and the Battle of Adwa, the war of colonial resistance between the Ethiopian forces and the Italian Empire in 1896. The album was the most expensive and most widely sold album in Ethiopia after his fifth album Ethiopia. The album saw huge sales via music markets. According to AdikaRecords' producer Ashenafi Zeleke, the music markets required 500,000 CDs and 200,000 cassettes and the album was in process for sale.

On 22 August 2014, Teddy released "Be 70 Dereja", with 9.1 million views on YouTube within two years. The music video set in 1970s-themed black-and-white scenarios in Ethiopia, including several monuments and places.

Teddy's fifth album, Ethiopia was officially released on 2 May 2017, reached the top of the Billboard World Albums chart in that month, at which time more than 600,000 units had been sold.

2020–present: "Demo Be Abay" and upcoming projects

Kassahun held the Adwa! Wede Fikir Guzo concert on 22 February 2020 to a record-breaking crowd in Addis Ababa Meskel Square.

On 3 August 2020, Teddy released "Demo Be Abay", a song dedicated to the Abbay river, known in English as the Blue Nile River. The song is a critique of Egyptian attitudes, or "Egypt's shamelessness", in regard to its claims over the waters of the river Nile; Egypt had claimed that the filling of the reservoir for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam would endanger its water supply.

Teddy lives in Addis Ababa. He has been married to Ethiopian actress, model, and producer Amleset Muchie since 2012. They have three children.

On 6 December 2006 Teddy was jailed for four years in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident during the 2005 Ethiopian general election. He was accused with driving under the influence when he rammed a 40 years old homeless man. The government sentenced him to six years in prison, and fined with 18000 birr ($1,755). With good behavior, Teddy was released in August 2009.

The head of WHO prioritizes politics than health issues says Italian journalist

The head of WHO prioritizes politics than health issues  says Italian journalist

Dr. Tewodros Adhanom, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO)

Dr. Tewodros Adhanom, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), considered his personal political issues are more important than health issues, says journalist Francesca Ronchen.

THE GOVERNMENT HAS DISMISSED DR. TEWODROS' ALLEGATIONS AS BASELESS

Speaking to Fana Broadcasting Corporation, the Italian journalist said that the statements made by Dr. Tewodros, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), are clear indications that his personal political priorities are more important than health issues.

In a press conference in Geneva on March 16, Dr. Tewodros said it was "sad" to hear him repeatedly say that there were no more dangerous people on earth than Tigray and that he was a native of Tigray.

She said it was inappropriate to raise personal issues in the face of urgent issues such as the Covenant 19 epidemic and the situation in Ukraine.

"People in Amhara and Afar are no less dangerous than the people of Tigray," she said. But Dr. Tewodros also asked why she did not speak out.

Dr. Tewodros also said that due to the destruction and looting by the TPLF in the Amhara and Afar regions, almost 3,000 health facilities have stopped providing services and millions of people have wandered without medical treatment.

"I am really saddened by this act of the head of the World Health Organization," said Francesca Ronchen, an Italian journalist.

As director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Francesca said she should have been concerned about the plight of other Ethiopians as well.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said it was "saddened" to hear that the health facilities in the Tigray region were not functioning.

Interestingly, when Dr. Tewodros took over the World Health Organization (WHO), he kept his promise to serve without discrimination and expressed his personal political views, "she said."

"The statements made on Twitter, Facebook and other forums over the past two years are based on the TPLF and its allies," she said.
