ADDIS ABABA, May 30 (BERNAMA-NNN-ENA) -- Targets set by the African Development Bank (AfDB) have been included in Ethiopia's development programmes which proved to be useful in accelerating development, says State Minister of Finance and Economic Co-operation Ahmed Shide.
The State Minister, who attended the 2016 Annual Meetings of the AfDB held in Lusaka, Zambia, last week, told the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) at the weekend that the Bank's five priority areas ("High5") complemented Ethiopia's development plans.
He also disclosed that Ethiopia's rapid economic growth was recognised at the AfDB meeting as a model for other countries as it demonstrated the country's commitment in putting loans from the AfDB to proper use.
Ahmed told ENA that the "High5" of the Bank were all included in Ethiopia's Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) and their implementation would be further maintained.
"We need to maintain our development and efforts of integrating Africa as our endeavours in this respect are becoming popular at continent level," Ahmed stated.
Ethiopia had benefited from the 600 million US dollars loan obtained from the AfDB with an additional loan of one billion USD later obtained for development projects which were being implemented, the state minister said.
According to Ahmed, Ethiopia received appreciation at the Lusaka event for its rapid economic growth with some countries showing interest to learn from Ethiopia's best practices.
The theme of the 2016 Annual Meetings of the AfDB was "Energy and Climate Change", and drew on one of the Bank's "High 5" priority areas, namely to "Light up and Power Africa".
It also reflected the Bank's New Deal on Energy and the key resolutions from the recent UN climate change talks (COP21) on global warming, according to the AfDB.
