Awramba Times (Jigjiga, Ethiopian Somali) – Thousands of children have lost one or both parents in a decade-long war against the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) insurgents in the Eastern part of the nation, the Ethiopian Somali regional state.
The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), a separatist insurgency commonly known as ubbo in local context, is an organization proscribed by the Ethiopian parliament as a Terrorist organization back in June 2011.
As the overall security situation of the Ethiopian Somali remained stable, with the selfless sacrifices of the region’s liyu police, along with the gallant Ethiopian defense forces, the region has now fully turned its face to development and good governance.
Abdi Mahmoud Omar, the regional president, widely considered by many inhabitants of the region as an architect of the new stablized face of the region, was on the forefront to took the initiative of healing the economic and psychological wounds of those vulnerable children.
As part of the wound healing initiatives of the regional government, these orphans of terror are now being enrolled and adopted free of cost, in their comfortable residential based boarding schools, sponsored by the regional administration in three different sites of the region (Fik, Shekosh and Jigjiga)
Awramba Times has visited two of these boarding schools, located in Shekosh and Jigjiga towns of the region. Please watch our video production below.
