The railway which connected Ethiopia with Port Djibouti, Ethio-Djibouti railway, is set to start delivering goods to Modjo dry port after 4 months.
According to Ahmed Tusa, CEO of Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise, the railway will commence transporting goods to Modjo once the construction of the 3.5 kilometers rack which links the dry port with the main route is completed next April.
Test running is being conducted since the railway’s official inauguration in October by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and President Ismail Omar Gulleh of Djibouti.
In addition to the Ethio-Djibouti railway line, in June 2012 Ethiopian Railways Corporation concluded a 1.7 billion USD with the Turkish company, Yapi Merkezi, for the construction of 389 kilometers line. The line stretches from Awash and runs to Woldiya-Hara Gebeya.
Another line is also bein built by China Communications Construction Co. from Hara Gebeya to Mekelle by a 1.5 billion USD contract.
