The Ethiopian Orthodox Church synod has expressed its firm commitment to strengthen its works for peace and development.
His Holiness Abune Mathias , Patriach of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, Archbishop of Axum and Ichege of Saint Teklehaimanot, in his opening speech of the annual meeting of the synod said that the church has so far accomplished many tasks in terms of strengthening peace and development in the country and is committed to sustain this effort.
He urged the public to stand together and prevent anti-peace activities that are curtailed under the veil of religion and other political and social agendas.
The government has to create more jobs for the youth and support them to create jobs by themselves, he underscored.
Religious preachers and other stakeholders should primarily initiate youth and other members of the society to unreservedly engage in development, he added.
The meeting is expected to hold deep discussion on peace, development, strengthening of religious taught.
The synod hold such a meeting twice in a year and the next meeting is scheduled to take place in coming May. Read more here
