Lifan 530 Meter Taxis
Addis Ababa will have more than 800, 836 to be exact, Lifan 530 meter taxis in this Ethiopian New Year. The city welcomed and inaugurated these cars at Mesqel Square on September 09, 2006. Now the Lifan 530 meter taxis are ready to start operation.
The Addis Ababa Taxi Owners Association is at the center of this new endeavor, organizing 26 share companies to import 1,163 cars duty free. Yet it is still ambiguous why this cars are being imported when there is an assembly of Lifan Motors in Ethiopia. The assembly could have saved a huge amount of foreign currency for the country.
In May 2016, 26 Associations have agreed with four automotive companies for the provision of more than 1000 cars. These Lifan 530 meter taxis could be part of that deal. The four automotive companies that have agreed the deal in May were:-
Yangfan Motors PLC is subsidiary of Lifan Motors, which is the Chinese auto manufacturer with a plant here in Ethiopia. According to this agreement Lifan Motors will provide 821 Lifan 530 vehicles to these associations. Furthermore Lifan Motors will also facilitate more than 70% loan for the associations working with Birhan Bank.
MOENCO
The Motor & Engineering Company of Ethiopia Limited S.C.(MOENCO) is the exclusive agent of Toyota here in Ethiopia. As a result of this agreement it will deliver 149 Toyota Avanza car models to two of these associations. Similar to Lifan Motors, MOENCO is also facilitating loan by working with Lion Bank.
Scandisd Trading and
Scandisd Trading is another agent of Toyota in Ethiopia.
Avtovaz
Avtovaz is a Russian automotive giant that manufactures Lada Largus, Renault, Nissan, and Datsun. Of this the Lada Largus is the most famous provider of taxi service here in Addis Ababa. Based on this agreement Avtovaz will import 43 Lada Largus to the association.
Lifan 530 Model
Lifan 530 is a four seat subcompact sedan with 1.3L and 1.5L standard MT/CVT front engine and front wheel drive car. This Lifan Motors sedan model is modern looking car model after Toyota Vios. It features dual airbags, electric assisted steering and standard brake systems.
The Lifan 530 models to be used for meter tax in Addis Ababa, are especially equipped with a cab meter, GPS, radio communication devices and other modern technologies. But, other than this, technologies the meter taxis don’t use apps even though some reportsclaim to.
When will Lifan 530 Meter Taxis Start?
The ministry of transport, addis ababa transport authority and A.A taxi association are discussing on how to determine tariffs for a fare in this Lifan 530 Meter Taxis.
