The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) won the Award for Excellence in Power Generation at the East African Power Industry Awards ceremony held in Nairobi, Kenya on September 22. Ethiopia won the award due to its commitment to become a renewable energy hub in the region and beyond in addition to EEP's excellence in terms of power generation.
The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) currently maintains and manages more than 12 hydropower and three wind power plants with an installed capacity of more than 4290MW. The construction of two major hydropower projects, namely the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (6,000MW) and Genale Dawa 3 (254MW), is now underway.
