Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) disclosed it will establish a new Corporation that will manage the under construction railway line that will connect Ethiopia’s capital with Djibouti, Addis Ababa – Mieso – Dewelle – Djibouti Railway line.
According to ERC’s Public Relations Service Head, Dereje Tefera, the railway is scheduled to commence trial operation in few weeks after the power supply line is connected to the main grid. Nonetheless, before the railway starts operation the new corporation would be established, he explained.
The corporation would enable both Ethiopia and Djibouti to administer the railway line together, the Head noted.
International bid would be floated to award a contract for a foreign company that will administer the railway line for the coming 6 years, Dereje furthered. Upon the expiry of the contract in 6 years, the corporation would take over and administer the railway line.
The 3.4 billion USD railway project is expected to be inaugurated in few weeks and it will start trial operation in September.
