Foreign nationals oppose murder suspects’ bail

Ethopian nationals stage a peaceful march.
The Ethiopian Business Forum from Mayibuye Section held a peaceful march to the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on June 2.
Constable Patricia Mgijima said a group of about 30 Ethiopian nationals handed over a memorandum to the Court Manager, Mr Bhutana Nkuna.
In the memorandum, the Ethiopian Business Forum specified that they do not want two suspects to be granted bail.
“The duo was arrested after a victim, Adene “Markos” Ashuro, was shot and killed earlier this year in January.”
Mr Abraham Osamo, the spokesperson of the forum, handed the memorandum over to Mr Nkuna, who received it on behalf of the Chief Magistrate.
The Ethiopian Business Forum said they are scared that when the suspects are released they might kill other people, rob or threaten the deceased’s sister or even kill her.
“We therefore object to the release of the suspects,” said Mr Osamo.
Mr Osamo said one of the suspects was a business partner for six years to the late Markos. The group suspects the business partner killed Markos because the suspect wanted sole ownership of the businesses.
“There was a quarrel between Markos and his business partner. The Ethiopian Business Forum resolved it.”
“After two months, Markos was shot dead in his shop by the two suspects and they drove Markos’ car to another section where they left his body inside the car,” said Mr Osamo.
Mr Emmanuel Maduna, from sector crime forum in Mayibuye, said if the suspects are guilty they should not be released.
“The killing and robbing of foreign national and locals residents is not good despite our nationalities. We are fighting these crimes on daily basis. We see similar incidences in Mayibuye.
“A problem we are faced with at the moment is that, in fear of their lives, witnesses don’t come forward with information and these crimes continue,” he said.
Mr Maduna encouraged the community to assist the police by coming forward with information to enable the police to solve similar cases.
After the memorandum was signed, the group dispersed peacefully.
