Israeli PM to visit Ethiopia in July



Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to visit Ethiopia in July, it emerged on Friday.

Israeli ambassador Belaynesh Zevadia told state-affiliated broadcaster FANA that Netanyahu’s Ethiopia visit would be part of an East Africa tour, taking in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

In 2004, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman visited Ethiopia.

There are a significant number of Ethiopian Jews both in Ethiopia and in Israel.

Relations between the two countries were severed between 1973 and 1989, but later returned to normal. 
Trade exchange between Ethiopia and Israel amounts to $60 million, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
