Over €13.5m provided to drought victims, refugees

Germany has freed funds of over €13.5 million to the Ethiopian government for the provision of humanitarian relief to victims of drought and refugees in Ethiopia.
German State Secretary for Economic Cooperation and Development, Thomas Silberhorn, told a briefing in Addis Ababa on Thursday that the money will be used for humanitarian and emergency support to drought victims and refugees based on the priorities of the Humanitarian Requirements Document of the Government of Ethiopia.
Earlier this year German the German government donated €10 million to drought victims in the pastoral areas of Afar and Somali regions of Ethiopia.
Germany has allocated €1 million to UNHCR to support its program to assist Sudanese refugees in the Benishangul Gumuz refugee camps inside Ethiopia.
According to the State Secretary, the government of Germany will continue its technical and financial support to the east African nation.
Silberhorn appreciated the efforts by the Ethiopian government to mitigate the effects of the drought and its support to refugees from South Sudan.
