Malaria cases shows declining trend across Ethiopia-Official

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday disclosed that malaria cases has shown declining trend across the country due to the expansion of health extension development program and the massive deployment of health development army and huge involvement of various development partners in the east African nation.National Malaria Control and Elimination Coordinator at the ministry Dereje Dillu said malaria related admissions and death of children under-five has decreased since ten years now.
According to the ministry, Malaria epidemic has also declined over the past ten years, though it failed to support the declining trend with supportive figures.
With further attention given to the rainy season which comes with many cases of malaria and the recent El-Nino impact, the ministry has already distributed insecticidal chemicals to halt malaria outbreaks, the coordinator indicated.
The ministry has already set different strategic documents and guidelines that would be implemented in collaboration with regional health bureaus to control and prevent the occurrence of malaria.
More than 95 million insecticidal net has been distributed to malaria prone areas of the country during the past ten years.
All age groups are at risk of contracting malaria, he said, urging media partners to make efforts in creating awareness among the general public.
It was indicated that about 75 percent of Ethiopia’s land and 60 percent of its population is vulnerable to malaria. The nation envisages eliminating malaria by 2030.
