Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn and Members of the US Congress yesterday held fruitful discussion on collective security, economic cooperation, counter terrorism, South Sudan peace and ways of supporting drought affected areas in Ethiopia.
House Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Congressman Ed Royce told journalists that USA and Ethiopia are allies in many fronts. According to him, the two countries have good relations in areas of economic cooperation, counter terrorism and others.
He said that during their discourse with the Prime Minister, the Congressmen had fruitful discussion to further strengthen Ethio-US cooperation in area of economic development, counter terrorism, and ways to support drought affected areas in Ethiopia.
Committee Ranking Member Eliot Engle also said that Ethiopia is a very valued partner of USA. "The recent visit of Obama to Ethiopia is a good manifestation to US special relationship with Ethiopia."
According to him, the Congressmen will do whatever they can to further enhance US-Ethiopia relations
State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Taye Atskeselassie said that during their discourse the Congressmen and Prime Minister Hailemariam had fruitful discussion on ways of bringing sustainable peace in the South Sudan, economic cooperation, counter terrorism and ways of supporting drought affected areas.
According to him, the Congressmen have discussed with the Prime Minister on ways of working with Ethiopia and other IGAD member counteries to ensuring South Sudan peace.
He said that the delegates have appreciated the economic progress in Ethiopia . Ambassador Taye also said that the two countries have discussed on ways of strengthening economic cooperation between Ethiopia and the US.
According to him, during their discourse two sides have discussed ways of working together to end Al-Shabab insurgency in the region
