Muscat: Organising Committee of Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX) at a recent meeting discussed preparations for the next Omani Products Exhibition, which is scheduled to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in April 2016.
The meeting discussed the latest updates for the preparations of the exhibition and the committee hailed the support received from Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, minister of commerce and industry. The committee also hailed the support of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa).
The committee noted that Ethiopia was selected to be the next destination of OPEX due to its promising market where significant opportunities are available for investors. The committee looks forward to touch the positive outcomes of the next exhibition by achieving the desired objectives of entering the African market.
It should be noted that the most recent OPEX event was held in Jeddah in 2015 where around 120 companies showcased their products and 3000 visitors were briefed on the locally manufactured products. OPEX events were also held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2012; Dohar, Qatar in 2013; and Dubai, UAE in 2014.
Meanwhile, the last edition of OPEX Jeddah was organised in Saudi Arabia from May 18 to 21 at the Jeddah Centre for Forum and Events. The exhibition saw participation of 120 exhibitors comprising Omani exporters and export promotion bodies.
The exhibition had over 3,000 visitors and the objectives of the exhibition was to boost exports to new markets by introducing Omani manufacturers to importers, agents, wholesale and other dealers.
OPEX Jeddah 2015 was the fourth exhibition held annually following OPEX Dubai in 2014, OPEX Doha in 2013 and OPEX Riyadh in 2012.
All exhibitors were awarded a certificate of appreciation and the event ended as a celebration of the success OPEX achieved in Saudi Arabia and the previous years. The manufacturers including industrial, SMEs and handicrafts see this exhibition as the most powerful and largest government vehicle to boost Omani products exports to new markets.
