Janza names side for Ethiopia friendly
Honour Janza has named his 18-member team to face Ethiopia in Monday’s friendly away in Addis Ababa.
Zambia are using the friendly to prepare for their 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifier at home against Guinea Bissau on June 13 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The team includes Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka who is expected to play his first Zambia match after a six-month injury layoff.
Mayuka returns following his recent recovery from a groin injury he sustained on January 22 at the 2015 Africa Cup in a 2-1 Group B loss to Tunisia.
Meanwhile, the team is comprised of eleven home-based players as Janza also plots for Zambia’s 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) first round, first leg qualifier away to Namibia on June 20 in Windhoek.
However, Janza had left first-choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene behind and will instead travel with Daniel Munayo and Jacob Banda from Red Arrows and Zesco United respectively with the CHAN qualifiers in mind.
Captain Rainford Kalaba of DR Congo champions TP Mazembe will also stay home.
The friendly will be the two sides’ first meeting since January 2013 when they drew 1-1 in an Africa Cup group stage match at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
Zambia depart for Addis Ababa on Friday and will later take a direct flight back to Ndola on June 9 after the friendly.
