The Politicized Human Rights Campaign against Ethiopia!

By Mekki Elmograbi

I would like to refer to two very important articles, “Oakland Institute’s efforts to damage Ethiopia’s development policies”, and “The Cry wolf of the Washington Post”.

I will continue in Boswell's article and i will discuss these two articles later, but i want to confirm that they gave strong evidence that this campaign against Ethiopia was synchronized with election, this explains for me why it is launched in this way, and why the reports against Ethiopia are at the top of the list temporarily, and after that another country will be placed for a reason or other.

The article written by Alan Boswell says: “Inside the bizarre moral campaign by Washington politicians, NGO do-gooders, and celebrities to create an independent South Sudan - whether it's a disaster or not?”

The article criticized the role of the famous human rights defender, the Hollywood star George Clooney who offered his satellite service for South Sudan: “Clooney’s eyes in the sky have visually confirmed several events on the ground. But, its satellites also have a clear agenda: Read through the group’s reports, and while regularly publishing about Sudan’s troop mobilizations near the border, it does not offer comparably critical scrutiny of South Sudan’s forces, guilty of its own troop buildups, sometimes in violation of international agreements as well”
I presented two paragraphs from the article “the Failed State Lobby” to prove that not all human rights campaigns are fair and dedicated for the sake of humanity. In some cases, they lead to a disaster just like what had happened in South Sudan: (The heavy U.S. backing of the SPLM [the ruling party in South Sudan] might be producing as many problems as it is resolving."It makes them reckless," said Alex de Waal, a top Sudan scholar and an adviser to the African Union’s mediation efforts between Sudan and South Sudan. "They think the rules don’t apply to them." That behavior was most evident in April, when U.S. and African diplomatic officials told me South Sudan seemed genuinely blindsided by the global condemnation of its military offensive against Sudan).

The crisis of South Sudan was an example of the lies with short wings, but unfortunately, a lot of activists and human rights defenders from both two Sudans, had shared in the crisis of their own country, or at least they had been used by others - according to unseen political agenda - to maximize and minimize human rights violations in North and South Sudan respectively.

What is the result now?! Nearly, 100,000 massacred, this must give other activists from other countries especially the country with biggest population in the region, Ethiopia, an alarm to stop and check; are we serving our country or other’s agenda against our country and its development and economic renaissance? What is happening in Ethiopia is a model of African countries, so, Ethiopia should not be alone in this battle, it is the battle of all African and Third World countries.
