Addis Ababa December 18/2014 Ethiopia and Djibouti can become drive for the regional economic integration IGAD has been envisioned in the East African region and working to enhance it, the Foreign Ministry of Djibouti said.
In an exclusive interview with ENA in Djibouti, the Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said huge infrastructure developments are being underway in both countries in roads, electricity and railway which will facilitate way for integration.
"We believe that Djibouti and Ethiopia can be become the engine and the locomotive for that regional integration because we have already laid the foundation of those infrastructures and we can that I mean firm belief from Djibouti's people and government that we can play that role.’’
According to Youssouf, a lot is expected from Ethiopia in realizing the integration, supported by its rapid economic growth and the government's commitment for the economic integration along with its role in the region’s politics and economy.
The Minister indicated that the two countries have all the necessary elements and responsibility to be the champion of economic integration in the region since they achieved the Minimum IntegrationPlan that encompasses transport, industry, ICT, peace and security, agriculture, livestock and food security, environment and natural resources sectors.
"…we said that we are a head from that plan [Minimum IntegrationPlan].We want to be as I said the locomotive of the region so we will look forward for beyond that plan of minimal integration .We need a full integration between the economies of the two countries" he said.
