10 facts about Ethiopian ex prime minister you need to know
Hailemariam Desalegn the ex Prime Minister of Ethiopia had performed this duty for six years. He ascended to authority after the demise of Meles Zenawi. Hailemariam Ethiopia was in the beginning appointed in a fill-in post and thereafter chosen chairperson of the state’s governing party, the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front ( EPRDF) that allowed him to retain his position as the sitting Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

Hailemariam's abrupt departure from the premiership happened on February 15, 2018, when he voluntarily vacated the posts of the Prime Minister and Chairman of EPRDF citing the turmoil and political catastrophe that has caused deaths and he avers that he wants to be part of the solution.Here are 10 facts that you should know about Ethiopia's most recent Prime Minister Hailemariam. 

1. Age - 52 years old 
Hailemariam was born fifty-two years ago in Boloso Sore district of the Wolayita Zone Southern Nations Nationalities and People’s Region ( SNNPR). 

2. Early childhood 
Those who grew up with Hailemariam recall that he was faint-hearted and quite short-tempered. He played soccer and assisted his father, Desalegne, with the family business. During his high school years, he was a member of a political youth group that represented one of the rulers of Ethiopia, Mengistu Hailemariam. 

3. Education 
The previous P.M Hailemariam Desalegn graduated in 1998 with civil engineering degree from Addis Ababa University. He afterwards worked as a graduate aid in the Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (current Arba Minch University). Two years later, he secured a scholarship to the Tampere University of Technology in Finland and here, he pursued a master’s degree in sanitation engineering. When he came back to Ethiopia, Desalegn worked in several academic and administrative occupations, not to mention being the dean of the Water Technology Institute for thirteen years. He got an MA in organizational leadership from Azusa Pacific University, California, USA. 

4. Hailemariam’s wife 
Desalegn's life partner, Roman Tesfaye, was born in Woliata, Southern Ethiopia. She attended Addis Ababa University and graduated with a degree in economics and also holds a second degree in economics from an Indian University and an American Institution in Leadership. Roman was an economic adviser of South Regions Administration. Other jobs she has done include: high-level crime official in Ethiopian Women’s Affairs Ministry, Ethiopian Anti Human Rights Commission, African Union and currently works for United Nations Development Program office in Addis Ababa. She was also a lecturer of economics at Arba Minch University. 

5. Hailemariam’s family 
Hailemariam tied the knot with his longtime lover, Roman Tesfaye, in 1989 and they are blessed with 3 girls. Two of their daughters learn at Ethiopian Universities. In addition, Hailemariam is the first prime minister of Ethiopia of the Ethiopian Apostolic denomination which is not a conventional Ethiopian protestant Christianity. 

6. Political career 
Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegns’ political profession kick-started in the 1990's and early 2000's when he became a member of EPRDF as well as the deputy president of Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region ( SNNPR). Hailemariam, the former Ethiopian prime minister, was the President of SNNPR starting November 2001 and ending March 2006. He got the promotion to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in October 2010. 

Between 2000-2005 Desalegn served as Vice – President, President, and Member of the House of People’s Representatives. From 2005 to 2008, Desalegn was the Social Affairs Special Advisor to the PM, Public Mobilization & Participation Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, and lastly the Government Chief Whip, with a Ministerial portfolio between 2008 to 2010. He took charge of Ethiopia's PM office when Meles Zenawi died on 20 August 2012, in stand-in capacity and this was confirmed on 21 September 2012. 

7. Hailemariams daughter’s wedding 
Former P.M Hailemariams daughter Dr. Sosina tied the knot with Ato Abel at the National Palace on 10 January 2016. 

8. Salary 
As the Ethiopian prime minister, below are estimates of Desalegn's Salary Annual Salary : ETB 1.216.385,00 Monthly Salary : ETB 101.365,00 Weekly Salary: ETB 23.392,00 Daily Salary : ETB 3.333,00

The former Ethiopian Prime Minister gave speech to the Nation on television about his move to bow out as the Prime minister and chairman of Ethiopia's reigning coalition, EPRDF. His announcement concurrently happened during the political turbulence and crisis in the nation that has led to the government freeing many political prisoners to ease tension.
