An Ethiopian pro-democracy campaigner granted asylum in Britain has been charged with attending a terrorist training camp. Tadesse Kersmo, 51, was arrested at Heathrow airport in January and was last night charged with eight counts of possessing articles containing information likely to be useful to terrorists. The offences allegedly relate to activity abroad and the charges are understood not to relate to an Islamist group or ideology. Mr Kersmo came to Britain with his wife in 2009 and settled in north London. He describes himself as a political activist and has repeatedly claimed that he was held captive and beaten by the authorities in Ethiopia and that its government hacked his computer while he was living here.
