The BBC World Service today announced its biggest expansion since the 1940s, in a move designed to bring its programming to millions more people around the world, including in places where media freedom is under threat, the broadcaster said.
BBC said it will add 11 new languages including Ethiopian official language Amharic, Afaan Oromo and Tigrinya spoken in Tigray and Eritrea. The other languages include Gujarati, Igbo, Korean, Marathi, Pidgin, Punjabi, Telugu, and Yoruba.
In Addition to BBC world Service, Ethiopians now have a choice of international programming from Voice of America and Deutsche Welle which both broadcast in Amharic.
