Ethiopia overcame hosts Uganda in Third Place play-off battle of the 2016 Cecafa Women Championship

Ethiopia hammered Uganda 4-1 to finish third in Cecafa Women tournament on Tuesday.

Ethiopia lost to Kenya while Uganda lost to Tanzania in the semis and both teams were out to fight for the third position but Uganda failed to maintain their starting momentum seeing Lucy emerge the winners of the match.

Hassifa Nassuna put Uganda in the lead in the 5th minute adding her goal tally of the event to six, one past Kenya’s Esse Akida but Ethiopia settled down in the match to score four clean goals thereafter.

Erhima Zeregaw was the heroine of the match scoring a hat-trick for the Lucy by 71st minute. She scored her first goal of the match in the 16th minute then in the 44th minute and finally in the 71st minute. Losa Abera then stepped up to drill in the last goal in the 80th minute to make 4-1, a scoreline which was maintained to the final whistle.

With the results, Uganda have now finished fourth behind Ethiopia as Kenya and Tanzania battles for the title on the same pitch.
