Ethiopia Roads Authority (ERA) disclosed it will commence construction of an expressway linking Adama and Awash. The expressway is going to stretch for 130 kilometers and preliminary studies reveal the project will consume 100 million Birr for every kilometer.
The project is an extension of Addis Ababa – Adama Expressway and also part of Adama – Dire Dawa Expressway.
According to data from ERA the Akaki – Bishoftu road corridor entertains 15,000 cars per day making it the most highly congested corridor in Ethiopia. The route is followed by Addis Ababa – Jimma corridor with 5,200 vehicles every 24 hours.
Currently ERA is undertaking 218 kilometers of expressway construction from Modjo to Hawasssa.
According to Fortune, the government has given priority to road construction projects and allocated 24 billion Birr.
