The first Korea and Ethiopia International Conference was held from May 26-27, 2016 at the IT Doctoral Program of Addis Ababa University.
The conference attracted some 40 papers from Korean and Ethiopian Universities, and the Industry, which were presented and demonstrated as posters during the conference sessions.
The conference was launched with an opening address by Prof. Yeong Min Jang of the Kookmin University of Korea and a welcoming speech by Essayas G/Youhannes (PhD.), Executive Director of the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAIT) of the AAU.
Two keynote speeches were then made, one by Prof. Chung Gu Kang, Chairman of the 5G Forum Wireless Technology Committee at the School of Electrical Engineering of Korea University and another by Solomon Atnafu (PhD.), Staff of the Department of Computer Science and Associate Director for CITRI at the IT Doctoral Program of the AAU.
During the conference, Prof. Yong-Soo Cho, President of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Technology (KICS) at Chung-Ang University of South Korea, announced the official opening of a branch of KICS in Ethiopia. The Professor also went on to state the appointment of Abiyot Bayou (PhD.), Director of the e-Government Directorate of the Ethiopian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), as chair of the branch with Mohammed Abdo (PhD.) of the AAiT and Solomon Atnafu (PhD.) designated as honorary advisors of KICS.
