Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, will receive its first bike taxi service by next month. Such was disclosed by the city’s transport coordination office.
According to Office, Addis Ababa City Administration allocated over 21 million Birr to buy the bikes and build infrastructure for the first of its kind service in Ethiopia. An institution working on climate change dubbed CRG

Leul Hailu, Head of Project Management at the Office, explained from the total 21 million Birr, 7.1 million Birr was spent to buy 210 bikes which are 2 and 3 wheeled. In addition to the purchase of the bikes, a total of 8 kilometers road was built for this purpose, he noted.
The purchased bikes have been distributed to 3 small and micro enterprise association and they are expected to commence the service by early July.
The service is going to be given in the following routes; from CMC Square to Semmit, from Bob Marely round about to Atlas Hotel and from Ayat Square to Ayat Medhanialem Church. In addition to this, the services would be given from Ayat Medhanialem Church to Ayat Chefe and from Bob Marely round about to Woreda 17 and from Shola Menafesh to Atlas Hotel.
