Ethiopia’s President Dr. Mulatu Teshome on Saturday evening saw off 15 newly appointed diplomats at the National Palace, advising them to work for increased economic diplomacy in their countries of assignment.The 13 Ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary and two special envoys received directives from the president to work for increased economic diplomacy between Ethiopia and the countries to which they were assigned.
Hunting markets for local products, attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), looking for loans and development assistance as well as promoting the country’s potentials in tourism are among the specific tasks of the freshly recruited ambassadors.
The latest batch of appointees are fortunate as they were appointed during a time when the country is gaining huge popularity internationally due to its fast growing economy and the prevailing peace and stability in the country, according to the president.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom also spoke about Ethiopia’s ever growing importance at international forums and increasing bilateral exchanges with foreign countries and international organizations.
The minister urged the new appointees to maintain the current momentum in the relations and stand for national interest.
The diplomats are also expected to strengthen relations with foreign countries in spheres of the economy, politics, social and security sectors.
The appointees promised to discharge duties with full commitment, responsibility, loyalty and integrity and protecting the national interest.
The countries of appointment include India, UK, Australia, US, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
