An Ethiopian cooking workshop was enjoyed by pupils from Holy Trinity Primary School as part of its work with the charity Partners for Change.
The school has been working with the charity and fundraising for the Gende Tesfa school in Ethiopia.
Tutu Melaku, who runs Tutu’s Ethiopian Table cafe in Reading, came into the school and made traditional Ethiopian injera pancakes for the students on Monday, November 23.
She said: “I gave a food demonstration and cooked pancakes with a yellow split pea sauce.
“They loved it and were really interested in asking me questions aboutEthiopia. I even overheard one child say my food was better than the school dinner!
“I told them about Ethiopian culture and how children live there.”
A spokesman for the school told the Advertiser: “The children all loved the cooking session because it was practical and they asked Tutu questions.
“Students have been learning about Ethiopia and African culture in the school.”
Students were also invited to Holy Trinity’s church service on Sunday and performed a presentation about their work and their fundraising for the school.
Anna Smith, head of year, said: “We were invited along to the service and students told the church about the charity Partners for Change.
“We have raised £2,000 so far which is going towards the school.”
