The mass start of the marathon was given by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, who is also co-chair of the organisation committee of Sofia 2018 – European Capital of Sport, Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev and Chairperson of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) Stefka Kostadinova.
The three greeted participants, noting that the marathon has already become a symbol of Sofia and is becoming more popular and classy with every passing year.
Among those present and delivered the awards were the deputy mayors of the capital Todor Chobanov and Doncho Barbalov; Elen Gerdzhikov, co-chair of the organizing committee of Sofia 2018, Secretary General of the Olympic Committee Belcho Goranov, municipal councillors Nikolai Stoynev Ekaterina Yordanova, Nina Chaneva and others.
Sofia Marathon 2015 is part of the official programme of events in Sofia - European Capital of Sport in 2018, in the spirit of the campaign for more sport for health and active lifestyle.
A citizen of Ethiopia was adorned with the laurel wreath in the classic distance of 42,195 km. Samuel Demi won the 32nd edition of the race in fierce battle with Kenyan Moses Kibiri and first crossed the finish line 2:16:40. Gudeta Biratu remained third with 2:17:12.
The fastest among women, was Rebecca Korir of Kenya, who triumphed with a personal record of 2:32:36.
