Rev Deirdre Lyon and husband Gordon with a young friend in Ethiopia.
Bellshill minister Rev Deirdre Lyons and her husband, Gordon, have been making a difference to the lives of people in Ethiopia.
Congregations of the United Free Church of Scotland raised funds to send a group of people there with the charity Stand By Me.
Members of St Andrew’s UF Church in Bellshill, friends and other local people raised more than £4,500.
The money raised by the UF denomination as a whole reached more than £36,000.
The team took 50 water filtration units to Dembi Dollo in the west of Ethiopia.
New concrete walkways had been laid out and and team members installed guttering on one of the buildings to gather water for children to use for washing and drinking. This harvested rain water was cleaner water than the children would normally have access to. Most families could not afford to buy drinking water.
An information evening will be held in St Andrew’s Church tonight (Wednesday) at 7pm. Deirdre and Gordon will be there with pictures and videos. All are welcome to attend.
