Arrangements in place for bay marathon

All arrangements are in place for the Vizag Steel Bay Marathon, to be run on half-marathon course on Saturday evening on Visakha-Bheemli beach road. This is for the first time that the event is being held during night in AP.

Nearly 7,000 have registered for participation in the 3 km fun run, 5 km, 10 km and 21 km runs. The beach road has been barricaded and additional lighting on the divider is provided to make the route clearly visible for the participants. Cultural programmes are arranged at 21 points along the half-marathon course.

While Minister for Panchayati Raj Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu unveiled the trophy at Narsipatnam, Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar inaugurated the facility where T-shirts and kits were distributed to the registered participants.
CMD of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant P. Madhusudhana Rao said the event would certainly enhance the brand value of Visakhapatnam and expressed his happiness that VSP was participating in the event in a big way.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is arriving in the city at 4.10 p.m. to inaugurate the run. After meeting the APIIC Health Park allottees and Flag Officer Commandig-in-Chief of ENC, he would inspect the arrangements made for the event on an open top jeep and after addressing the participants, would flag off the 3 km and 5 km events at 6.50 p.m. at RK beach. He would leave for Vijayawada by a special flight at 7.15 p.m.

Traffic curbs
In view of the Vizag Bay Marathon being held on the Beach Road in the city on Saturday evening, the city traffic police have imposed certain traffic restrictions.

The city traffic police have made it clear that they will not allow any vehicular movement on the Beach Road from Novotel Hotel to Rushikonda from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

ADCP (traffic) K. Mahendra Patrudu said that movement of all vehicles and parking has been banned on the beach road from Novotel Hotel junction to Rushikonda from 3 p.m. to 11p.m.

Similar ban has been imposed for all the roads leading to the beach during the same period. Parking has also been banned at Vemana Mandiram, Tycoon Hotel, Siripuram Junction, All India Radio, 
Pandurangapuram, NTR statue, Andhra University Out Gate and China Waltair. Those coming from Park Hotel and Siripuram and beach revellers should park their vehicles at Andhra University High School grounds and YMCA.

The participants of Bay Marathon have been asked to come from All India Radio side via T. Subbarami Reddy’s residence and park their vehicles at APIIC grounds. People approaching the beach road from Collector’s office junction, Pandimetta and Judge Court should park their vehicles at Gokul Park on the Beach Road.

Parking
The VIPs participating in the marathon will have to park their vehicles on the service road leading to Gokul Park, according to the ADCP.

Those entering the city from the Bheemunipatnam side will have to take a diversion at Yendada and move to the city on the NH-16 stretch. People living on the Beach Road are advised not to take out their vehicles from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. except in case of emergency.

Sources in police said that they had taken all the security arrangements for safety of the participants.
