Ethiopians to renew vow for renaissance!

Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities and Peoples will celebrate their 11th Day in Harari Regional State. All preparations to celebrate it colorfully have been underway. Ethiopians have celebrated similar ceremonies once every year for the past ten years. This year they representatives of all nations and nationalities will gather in Harari for the celebration.
Many scholars argue that the Ethiopian constitution has ensured human and democratic rights of citizens.  It has been played a fundamental role not only in ensuring rights but also in the building one socio-economic society.
It was a recent history that Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia were deprived of their human and democratic rights pre 1991.  Not only their cultures, languages and dignity were annihilated but also they were starved of their rights to decide their fate.  Despite their indisposition, they were constrained to smooth the progress of the fake attempts of unifying the country under a despot unitary rule.

Poverty, on one hand, violation of human and democratic rights on the other hand aggravated the sufferings of the people.  Owing to the immense sacrifice that Ethiopians paid, the dire situation was altered since the inception of federalism.

The people designed and endorsed a constitution that ensured human and democratic rights of nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia. The preamble of the constitution stated, "We nations, nationalities, and peoples of Ethiopia strongly committed, in full and free exercise of our right to self-determination, to building a political community founded on the rule of law and capable of ensuring a lasting peace guarantying a democratic order, and advancing our economic and social development, firmly convinced that the fulfillment of this objective requires full respect of individual and people’s fundamental freedoms and rights, to live together on the basis of equality an without any sexual, religions or cultural discriminations."

Recognizant of the need to ensure the will and active participation of all nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopian, EPRDF has come with a new option that could entertain the rights of nationalities in the country.  Then, the people designed and endorsed  a legal warranty that respects their rights, ensures equality among them and guarantees their being beneficiaries of developments in the country.

The Ethiopian Federalism system has been playing a decisive role in ensuring the rights of all nations, nationalities and peoples.  One of the scenario that contributed nation, nationalities and people of Ethiopia to know one another and respect as well as admire their diversity is the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day.

Many Ethiopians believe that the celebration of the Nations, Nationalities and People Day has been adding a significant value in enhancing the unity of the people to its apex.

The conviction Ethiopians made in every  special event held on Hidar 29 every year for the past ten year has contributed to bring Ethiopian together and stand hand in hand for the rebalance of their country.
The nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia have used the celebration as an opportunity to renew their commitment to strengthen the bond among them and work hard to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development in the country.

The people have already identified poverty as their arch-foe. They believe that unless they work together to get rid of it, the opportunity to exist as a strong nation will be impossible. This is because poverty instigates unceasing conflict, intimidates to accomplish the interest of others and it jeopardizes efforts to uphold democracy and good governance.  It is only if we eradicate poverty that our country would be a strong nation in which its citizens enjoy its resources comfortably.  In the coming Hidar 29, the people in general and the youth in particular are expected to renew their promise  to work hard for the realization of peace, democracy and sustainable development of their country.

The celebration of Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia has also contributed to effectively carry out the shared vision the country. The vision to pull their country out of the quagmire of poverty, the vision to enhance democracy, good governance and justice,  and the vision to make the country one of the middle income generating countries in the world. It could also help to strengthen and consolidate cultural tolerance among the people and instigate them to work together so as to ensure Ethiopia’s renaissance and realize the efforts to mitigate poverty.

Every year, representatives of all Nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopians came together and vow to strengthen their unison and solidarity.  They strengthen their unison to exterminate poverty, augment good governance and democracy as well as warranty sustainable economic development.

It has now become a remarkable day because it primarily belongs to the Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities and peoples. It is also the day when the country’s constitution was adopted.

It has become a symbol of peace, democracy, justice, tolerance, love and affection between and among Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia. Besides, It is a demonstration of unity that embraces diversity, an expression of cultural religious, linguistic and ethnic multiplicity and where all Nations, Nationalities and Peoples bring the assets of their culture to one place.

The Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day  is  in fact the expression of the Democratic Federalism, which has accommodated the diversities among the people to further strengthen unity in diversity and  enhance national consensus.

In connection to the celebration, it is believed that different workshops, seminars, and conference and trade bazaars will be held.

The purpose of the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day is beyond festivity.  It is developing infra-structures, enhancing culture and tradition, strengthening People to People connection and reinforcing tolerance amongst people, respecting the rights and responsibilities guaranteed by the constitution and most importantly, strengthening the understanding, love and respect between and amongst the Ethiopian people.

Therefore, Hidar 29 is not simply a day of festivity but also a day where verities of developmental projects are under-taken that will have a long lasting developmental benefits to the people in the region.

The celebration also include musical and cultural show of the Ethiopian Nation, Nationalities and Peoples.  It is a spectacular to any spectator to observe and admit the richness and depth of the Ethiopian culture. This fascinating and breath-taking show that exemplifies the harmony of the Ethiopian people during good and bad times also shows the unity in diversity of the Ethiopian people.

Therefore, Ethiopians will renew their vows for the renaissance of their country in the coming 11th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day. That   Day will be the demonstration of the commitment of the Ethiopian people to join hands in order to get-rid of poverty and realize the renaissance of the country. It is a truly remarkable and simply unforgettable festival giving a clear message to everyone that the Ethiopian people are as always united and strong. Read more here
