Peugeot Cars Assembly Plant Inaugurated

Mesfin Industrial Engineering’s (MIE) new car assembly line built in Tigray State of Ethiopia has been inaugurated on July 1, 2016. The plant will be assembling Peugeot automobiles.
According to the General Manager of MIE, Habte Hadush, the plant will assemble 3 types of Peugeot cars. The plant will be assembling 1200 vehicles per year.
Other than the Ethiopian market, the cars will be sold to Djibouti as well as Somalia.
During the inauguration, Deputy Chief Administrator of Tigray State and Head of the State’s Trade, Industry and Urban Development Bureau, Adissalem Balema (Ambassador Dr.) noted the construction of industrial park in the State’s capital, Meqele, has created a good opportunity for local investors. Investments by foreign companies had also created favorable environment for local investors to become competitive through encouraging knowledge and technology transfer, he furthered.
Speaking on her part Azeb Mesfin, CEO of Endowment Fund for the Rehabilitation of Tigray (EFFORT), said the endowment fund contributed its share in promoting knowledge and technology transfer in the country by engaging in the manufacturing industry.
Ambassador of France to Ethiopia, Brigitte Collet, on her part explained France would extend support for Ethiopia’s development activities.
