MAHS students raise over $15,000 for school in Ethiopia

MORRIS – Over the last two weeks, Morris Area High School students and the Morris community have come together to raise money to help build a school in Ethiopia.
During the Mr. Tiger Mangeant last night, organizers announced that students raised $15,515 through their creative fundraising efforts. That, combined with a $5,000 match from 2001 MAHS graduate Nic Lesmeister, will be enough to build a school in Waliso, Ethiopia.
Trent Wulf and Haley Erdahl were named Mr. and Miss Tiger, after raising over $5,600 themselves.
Lesmeister helped found Yewoinzer Academy in 2013. The school currently serves about 180 children in kindergarten through third grade, who attend school five days per week for about six months of the year. Only about 5 percent of Ethiopian children attend preschool.
Lesmeister thanked the students and the community for their hard work in a video posted on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7p_H0UUmls&sns=fb.
