The Addis-Adama Expressway Will stretch to Djibouti


Diretube. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said that the Addis-Adama expressway will stretch to Djibouti. The Premier said this in his comment at the inauguration ceremony of the expressway on Monday where the visiting Chinese premier Li Kequang was the guest of honor. Prime Minister Hailemariam said that the expressway will have an important role in the import export trade the country is having through the Djibouti port.

The Chinese premier in his part promised the continuous support of his country to Ethiopia in its infrastructure building strategies. This 84.1 Km long expressway has 31 meters width where six vehicles can pass both ways at a time.

Smaller vehicles are expected to pay 40 Brs while for the huge vehicles the payment is 80 Brs. It is indicated that the tariff can be revised on demand. The expressway’s building costs about 11.2 billion birr among which 57% of it is covered by loan from the Chinese Import Export Bank. The remaining cost is covered by the Ethiopian government.
