Preparations are concluded to start
Kidney Transplant in the Country
As
the Minister of Health delivers his report to the House of Peoples
representatives, preparations are concluded to start kidney transplant at Saint
Paul Hospital. As Minister of Health Dr. Tekeste Birhane stated in his nine
months report of the ministry to the House, the purchase of medical equipments,
laboratory chemicals and medications are underway. Since the medical treatment
is new to the country, efforts are underway to get medical practitioners for
the treatment from USA.
Since
one of the possible negative consequences of the medical treatment is the
purchase of kidneys, the Ethiopian council of ministers has approved a bill
prohibiting the act. The Minister has also indicated that kidney dialysis
treatment is started at the Saint Paul Hospital nine months ago with the help
from the Egypt Government. It is also indicated that efforts are underway to
install additional dialysis machines at the Saint Paul Hospital.
