Active Public Participation Needed for Successful Reform - PM

PM-EthiopiaDecember 8, 2016 - Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, in his speech at the 11thNations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day celebration held today at Harari town, said that the public should scale up the deep reform in a well comprehended, qualitative and active participation to realize Ethiopian renaissance. 
The premier noted that Ethiopia has recorded a fast economic growth in the past 15 years, though there are shackles that need more effort to be exerted on.
The anti-peace elements motivated by chauvinism and extremism should be effectively prevented from derailing the leap forward the country has continued to make.
Hailemariam is optimistic that his government together with the Ethiopian, nations, nationalities and people’ active involvement can overcome these hindrances.
“The Ethiopian people have overcome many challenges via unity in diversity. Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day is also a demonstration of the commitment of the Ethiopian people to join hands in order to get rid of poverty and illiteracy and enhance development and prosperity, he said.
The constitution of the country guarantees peace and democracy and enables people to live in harmony and adequately exercise their rights. The day is special because it is a moment on which the right of Ethiopian people have got legal guarantee.
 Hailemariam underscored that the coming into being of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia had laid the foundation for Ethiopians to exercise their rights as well as allow them to benefit from the gains of development. The Prime Minister said the constitutional system had resulted in flourishing democratic nationalism and had strengthened the fight against poverty which had already freed millions of people from poverty.
