Taking the Lead for real Change

The appointment of new cabinet members by Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn has been widely acclaimed by citizens across the country. People are of the opinion that the reshuffling of the cabinet is timely and a proper mechanism to satisfy the demand of citizens regarding good governance. The reshuffle is expected to help enhance the effort of the country to realize political, economic and social transformation.
Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) said it has carried out leadership appointments and structural changes at federal and state levels based on performance review conducted recently. The Front in its statement cleared that the meeting conducted from October 24-26, 2016, by its Executive Committee had evaluated the ongoing deep reform campaign as successful.
After reviewing the performance reports of the deep reform campaign carried out by the four major parties that make up the Front, the committee verified that the reform is going as planned.
The reshuffling of the cabinet is part of the government's commitment to realize pronounced reform in various sectors. The government also called upon citizens to spur this profound overhaul which targets the strengthening of peace, development and good governance to meet the public's demand.
EPRDF stated that it will strengthen the current profound renovation to bring change in the overall setting of the country, be it political, economic or social transformation. So far strenuous efforts have been exerted and sizable changes have been observed through time, slowly but surely.
It has been said that EPRDF and its member parties have gone too far to meet the demand of the people for development, democracy and peace, which are the basic questions of the public. However, as its demands are fathomless, more effort is needed to reach the desired level.
Citizens are expressing their support and happiness that the newly appointed ministers, most of whom are researchers and university scholars, are far better poised to realize good governance and help register amazing changes in the development of the country.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Getachew Ambaye on October 20, 2016 said that the enforcement of the state of emergency on various demarcated areas of the country has been successful in restoring peace and stability.
According to him, some protests were accompanied by armed groups and were made difficult to control it through the regular activities of the security forces. The unrest had reached to the level of hindering cargo transportation to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and oil imports from Sudan. It could have been aggravated, had it not been foiled by enforcing state of emergency.
Hence, it was a must to the country to decree the state of emergency and restore activities back to normal. The state of emergency has enabled to handle the situation peacefully and reinstate peace in the country.
He confirmed that the enforcement of the state of emergency has managed to avoid the death of civilians and devastation of hard-earned properties. According to him, peace and stability of the country is showing progress across the country and citizens are moving and doing their daily activities safely.
He said the enforcement of the state of emergency is at its initial stage. Hence, citizens are expected to put their hands for its successful implementation. They are also expected to support the endeavour of the government by being committed to restore constitutional order and stability throughout the country.
Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn had said that the destruction had turned many investment projects to ashes that used to support thousands of employees and their families. Even worse, destructive forces had aggravated their wicked act to destabilize the peaceful lives of individuals and inflict damage on them. However, the government has been striving to reinstate peace, stabilize people and resolve the problem in a far-sighted manner.
It has been witnessed that the greater public does not back mobsters and hell raisers nor it waffle irrational messages.
According to him, damaging the constitutional assets and federal system of administration is not the interest of people. People have openly spoken out on various forums that they accept and respect what is permitted and acknowledged by the Constitution.
The nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia have tightly woven unity and they cannot be dissociated by the evil acts of some few people. They have profound and inter-woven relation since time immemorial. In addition, people have fought together to remove the oppressive regime of Derg. Derg would not have been overthrown, had it not been for the great sacrifice and coordinated effort of Ethiopian people.
People and the government should resolutely work to hammer out problems. Particularly, activities aimed to alleviate good governance problems have been started in an invigorated manner since last August to satisfy citizens, who are expressing their grievances regarding good governance at various forums and discussions.
The government said the problem of corruption and good governance is palpable. However, nation could solve it with the active participation of people. People are the owners of transformation of Ethiopia and they have to spur the numerous changes being observed in the economic development, good governance and prevalence of peace. It is by stressing on the fact that the problem of corruption and rent-seeking could be solved with the participation of citizens. Read more here
