Ethiopia Expects 321 Million Quintals of Crop

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources disclosed it expects harvest of 321 million quintals during the meher season. The harvest will exceed the previous meher season by 10 percent.
According to The Ministry’s Public relations Head, Alemayehu Birhanu, the appropriate and abundant rainfall coupled with suitable weather condition has led to a better harvest.
Following the drought that Ethiopia experienced 2 in the past 2 years, the harvest was expected to fail which led to the worst draught in the history of the country. However, situations are expected to change as the main harvesting areas of Ethiopia have received abundant rainfall throughout the previous rainy season.
According to Ethiopian News Agency small holder farmers cultivated 2.7 million hectares of land across Ethiopia.
