Skeletons tumble as mystery over missing corpse solved

Saudi Gazette report
MADINAH — The mystery over the missing corpse of an Ethiopian woman has exposed many skeletons in the closet of a Yanbu hospital, Makkah Arabic newspaper reported on Sunday.
An investigation found that the missing corpse of the Ethiopian woman had the same death certificate number as that of another Ethiopian woman who was buried a year ago.
The Ethiopian woman by the name of Samira died after being admitted to a hospital.
Her body was initially kept at the Yanbu Public Hospital morgue.
It was later transported to the Yanbu Al-Nakhl Hospital morgue.
Samira’s body was reported missing by the hospital staff.
The police investigated the incident and found out that the death certificate number issued for Samira was the same as that of another deceased Ethiopian woman by the name of Hawaa, the newspaper said quoting a source. The source also said that Hawaa was buried in Yanbu Cemetery last year.
Samira died at the hospital’s emergency ward and Hawaa died in her home.
The police formed an investigative committee to check the details of all the corpses kept at the Yanbu Public Hospital morgue.
The committee found the staff working at the morgue negligent and callous, the source said.
The forensic report showed that Hawaa died of unknown causes.
The report also showed that Hawaa was a 45-year-old woman while Samira was 22 years old. Hawaa had no bruises or signs of injury on her body. Both women were pregnant when they died, said the source.
The police has asked the hospital to submit a detailed report and name the people responsible for registering the corpse, transporting and storing it in the morgue. Read more here
