The Ministry of Education said that it is preparing a Higher Education Road map that would enable avail qualified graduates to meet the needs of the growing economy.
Ministry Universities Expansion General Manager Dr. Samuel Kifle said : "The whole idea of having a long term plan in the education sector is to produce competent graduates for our economy."
Dr. Samuel said as the economy has been growing at a remarkable pace over the past 13 years, it needs to be sustained with the support of highly qualified human resource universities produce.
He further stated that the current development trajectory and trend in higher education, which resulted in the need for highly skilled workforce and a rapid increase in the number institutions of higher learning necessitated the road map.
The 15- year roadmap is expected to help reform the structure, governance and managerial systems in higher education and human resource development through increased access to higher education.
The preparation of the roadmap which brought together local and foreign experts including Germans, first draft will be completed after seven months, he said.
GIZ Sustainable Training Education Program Executive Program Officer Atonios Philiche said the roadmap will enable Ethiopia to have effective resource and quality assurance management.
He particularly emphasized the importance of the roadmap to help most of universities to become centers of excellence by producing demand driven manpower in the country. Read more here
