Ethiopia remains strong development partner - Outgoing US Ambassador - ebc

(EBC; August 25, 2016) - State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye-Atske-selassie bade farewell to the outgoing US Ambassador, Patricia M. Haslach on Thursday.
Ambassador Taye thanked Ambassador Haslach for the "phenomenal service" she has had in Ethiopia and for the tremendous contribution she has made to lift the Ethio-US bilateral relationship into new heights.  
In such score, the State Minister mentioned Haslach's efforts in facilitating the first historic visit of a sitting US president - President Barack Obama - to Ethiopia and organizing the US-Africa Business Forum.
"In your entire diplomatic tenure in the country, your contribution was indeed very valuable," Ambassador Taye said.
Ambassador Haslach for her part noted the already strong Ethio-US ties over the years and looked forward to further strengthening the relationship and thereby deepen the bilateral cooperation.  
"Ethiopia has been such a strong development partner," the outgoing US Ambassador underscored.
Ambassador Haslach also noted Ethiopia's growing resilience across the years, extending her appreciation to the people and Government of Ethiopia on dealing with the recent drought, which she said was the worst in 50 years.  
She also said, "Ethiopia's economic progress has been a testament to the government's commitment on the growth and Transformation Plan (GTPII)."
Acknowledging that Ethiopia is the host for over 7350 refugees - the biggest in Africa - Ambassador Haslach commended the people and Government of Ethiopia for welcoming refugees.
"You keep your doors open; you welcome people," She said.
