Ethiopia to build 11 universities in five years

Ethiopia’s Council of Ministers has approved the establishment of 11 new universities in the country in the coming five years, APA learnt on Sunday.The universities will be built in several regional states, Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Regional (SNNPR) State as well as Tigray and Somali states.
Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR will each have three universities, while Tigray and Somali states would get one each during the Second Growth Transformation Plan which is set to be realized in the coming five years.
The council has decided that Raya University is to be built in Maichew, Tigray regional state; and Debark, Engibara and Mekedela Amba universities in Amhara regional state, it was learned.
Similarly, Oromia regional state will get Selale, Dembi Dollo, and Oda Bultum universities.
Kebri Dehar University will be built in Somali State.
Worabe, Bonga and Jinka universities will be established in SNNPR.
Upon completion of the 11 universities, Ethiopia will have a total of 44 universities nationwide.
