Ethiopia: Dr Tedros Meets the Yali 2015 Fellows From Ethiopia


Foreign Minister Dr Tedros Adhanom on Wednesday (June 17) met with the 13 Ethiopians selected for the 2015 Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Mandela Washington Fellows Program. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Taye Atskeselassie, Director-General of American Affairs, and Ambassador Mule Tarekegni, Chief of the Cabinet Office at the Ministry.
Dr Tedros gave a detailed briefing to the group on Ethiopia's regional and international diplomatic standing and its role in support of regional peace, security and development. Dr Tedros noted that Ethiopia plays an important role in enhancing the integration and development of Africa, and he highlighted its significant performance in safeguarding regional and global peace and security.
He said the country had also become a trailblazer in carrying forward the AU's Agenda 2063 for the creation of a unified, prosperous and stable Africa. Dr Tedros told the group that their participation at YALI would give real encouragement to the further deepening of Ethiopia-US ties in areas of mutual interest. Dr Tedros, who congratulated those chosen for the program, urged them to use the opportunities presented by the YALI exchange program fully and then return home to contribute towards Ethiopia's development.
Ambassador Taye detailed the existing excellent Ethiopia-US bilateral relationship and its growing partnership in peace, security, development, and human rights and democracy. He told the group that Ethiopia and US enjoyed a longstanding cooperative partnership on matters of mutual interest.
Ambassador Mule pointed out that the participants' involvement at YALI 2015 would herald the development of a lasting relationship between Ethiopian and US universities as well as expanding the bilateral relationship. The group, who expressed their pleasure at being able to represent Ethiopia at YALI 2015, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for organizing the session to discuss Ethiopia's development. They pledged to demonstrate Ethiopia's progress effectively at YALI 2015.
