NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – ONE of the biggest rivals in sport is set for The Bahamas this weekend where Ethiopia and Kenya are expected to dominate the World Relay Championships.
The event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The two East African countries have a long running rivalry, with the latest episode witnessed in the just-ended Virgin Money London Marathon where Kenyan dominated.
Ahead of the Bahamas event, Ethiopia has lined up a strong field including Tigist Tufa, Tilahun Regassa, Lelisa Desisa and Yemane Adhane Tsegay.
Kenya has lined up an equally competitive team for The Bahamas while Kenya responded with an equally competitive team.
The team has Pius Muia, Geoffrey Kiprotich, Michael Mokamba, Collins Omae and Mark Otieno.
Also in the side are Alex Sampao, Boniface Mweresa, Michael Makan, Alfas Keshoyian and Raymond Kibe.
Although Kenya fielded the largest squad, Ethiopians have vowed to leave no stone unturned in turning the tables against their rivals in Bahamas.
The Ethiopia / Kenya duel is mentioned in the same breath as other rivalries in world sport, such as Australia versus New Zealand in rugby, Brazil versus Argentine in football as well as fierce football duels in Africa featuring Dynamos and Highlanders (Zimbabwe) and Kaizer Chiefs versus Orlando Pirates (South Africa).
