Ethiopia Expanding Road Ties with Neighboring Countries

Road projects that link Ethiopia with neighboring states are under construction to advance intra-Africa trade, Ethiopian News Agency reported.
There are more than 750km roads under construction.
The road projects will be instrumental for Ethiopia to have additional access to ports and increase trade links with neighboring countries, Sisay Bekele, Acting Director –General of the Ethiopian Roads Authority said.
Few of the roads are part of the Trans- Africa Highway system, a continental initiative targeting at connecting Africa through road.
The 499km Addis Ababa- Nairobi-Mombasa road is part of the road projects. It is also part of the 10,228km Cairo-Gaborone-(Pretoria/Cape Town) highway.
The construction of the road projects will raise the total length of roads that link Ethiopia with neighboring countries to 2,000km.
