Kenya will face Ethiopia in qualifying matches of African Nations Champions (Chan) to be held in Rwanda.
The first leg of the qualifiers will be played between June 19 (Friday) and June 21 (Sunday) while return leg will be played between July 3 (Friday) and June 5 (Sunday).
Tanzania will face rivals Uganda, Djibouti tackle Burundi while Sudan got a bye to round one of the competition. Guinea Bissau will face Mali, Mauritania tackle Sierra Leone, Guinea face Liveria and Senegal tackle Gambia.
The draw for qualifiers of 2016 competiton was conducted on Sunday at Caf headquarters in Cairo, Egypt and was dominated by exciting pairings. The draw was done based on zonal representation of National Associations affiliated to Caf.
Forty-two (42) teams are engaged in the qualifiers that will produce 15 teams to join hosts for the final tournament scheduled for Januar16 to 7 February 2016.bCaf General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani conducted the draw assisted by Caf 2nd Vice President, Almamy Kabele Camara, also president of Organising Committee of the African Nations Championship (Chan).
Also present were members of the Caf Executive Committee and officials of the teams involved in the qualifying phase. The Chan is a tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.
The first edition was held in 2009 in Cote d’Ivoire with DR Congo emerging as champions. The second edition held in 2011 in Sudan had Tunisia as winners whilst Libya won the third edition in 2014 in South Africa.
