Ethiopia mulls withdrawing citizens from Yemen

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has disclosed that his government is considering withdrawing its citizens from strife-torn Yemen.Speaking to the National Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday, the premier said a committee under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is striving to mobilize, protect as well as withdraw Ethiopian nationals voluntarily from the Middle Eastern country.
The premier noted Ethiopia’s support to the troubled country within the framework of the Sana’a forum for destabilizing terrorist groups such as al-Shabaab in Somalia and Al-Qaeda.
Hailemariam said Yemen, Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti and other countries are working together to help the troubled Yemeni government emerge from the crisis.
The prime minister expressed Ethiopia’s firm stand that the Yemeni government should be protected and justified the current military intervention led by Saudi Arabia to defeat Houthi rebels.
Ethiopia has over 50, 000 of its citizens living and working in Yemen.
